St John.s Community Hospital provides long term residential, respite rehabilitation care for patients from the local community.

St John’s Community Hospital is a purpose-built, single-storey building which provides services for 116 residents.

The premises is set in a large health campus, which also provides a day centre for older people and a range of mental health service facilities.

St John’s Community Hospital aims to provide person-centred care for members of the older population of Co. Wexford.

Residential accommodation is divided into four wards.

Facilities include an oratory, a smoking room, administration offices, staff changing facilities, a staff canteen, the central kitchen, a staff library, and the main reception area.

Occupational therapy and physiotherapy offices and treatment facilities are provided for residents in the rehabilitation service and for outpatients.

There are three enclosed, secure gardens which are accessible to residents and provide some shelter and seating.

One of these was for the sole use of residents and visitors in the Ivy ward and is undergoing further development.

There is ample car parking to the front of the premises.

What is the Nursing Homes Support Scheme?

The Nursing Homes Support Scheme provides financial support towards the cost of long-term nursing home care. Under the scheme, people who need nursing home care have their income and assets assessed, and then make a contribution towards the cost of their care based on their assessment.

The HSE will pay the rest, if any, of the costs of their care in designated public and approved private nursing homes covered under the scheme. People can choose care in any of the nursing homes included in the scheme provided that the nursing home can cater for the person's particular needs and that it has a place available for the person.

As the budget for this scheme is fixed each year, at times a waiting list for financial support may be in place
