Hiqa Reports

Macroom Community Hospital is a residential care centre, it is built on the ground floor level and the original building dates back to the 1930's.

The hospital is located at the western end of Macroom town and 10-15 minutes. walk from the town centre. There are many local amenities within a short walking distance such as shops, public houses and banks.

A garden and walkway is situated at the rear of the building and this is a work in progress. The aim of care reflects our philosophy and person centred vision in that the hospital provides a safe, caring and clean environment in which all of the residents receive the quality standard of care that they require and deserve.

The aim is to offer residents choice, in all aspects of their lives and offer professionally and individually tailored lifestyle plans in consultation with them and their families, especially those who are unable to express their own choices.

The desire is that the residents will feel loved and valued here as well as feeling a continued sense of purpose in life.

With empathy, kindness and a holistic approach, the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the residents are addressed.

They encourage families and next of kin to continue to be involved in the lives of the residents.

What is the Nursing Homes Support Scheme?

The Nursing Homes Support Scheme provides financial support towards the cost of long-term nursing home care. Under the scheme, people who need nursing home care have their income and assets assessed, and then make a contribution towards the cost of their care based on their assessment.

The HSE will pay the rest, if any, of the costs of their care in designated public and approved private nursing homes covered under the scheme. People can choose care in any of the nursing homes included in the scheme provided that the nursing home can cater for the person's particular needs and that it has a place available for the person.

As the budget for this scheme is fixed each year, at times a waiting list for financial support may be in place
