St Mary’s is a Health Service Executive (HSE) facility that provides accommodation for a maximum of 132 dependent older persons who require long-term care or respite care including persons who have dementia care needs.

The centre also provides “step down” care to persons discharged from acute services who are waiting for other services to be available.

The centre is comprised of five units.

The Dromore unit accommodates 28 male residents.
The Ashbury and Drumlin units accommodate 28 female residents each.
The Kavanagh unit also accommodates 28 residents but is mixed gender.
The Lorgan unit is a designated dementia care facility that provides care to both male and female residents and accommodates 20 residents.

St. Mary's Hospital is a single storey building surrounded by developed gardens offering both short tern and long term care to the senior citizens in County Monaghan.

Day hospital services include diversional therapy, paediatric care, occupational and physio therapy. These services are provided Monday to Friday inclusive.

The residential facility includesa special unit for residents with alzheimers disease. Links with the local community is and generational projects are encouraged.
The facility includes a coffee shop/pub that can be accessed by visitors to the facility where many social functions are held.

What is the Nursing Homes Support Scheme?

The Nursing Homes Support Scheme provides financial support towards the cost of long-term nursing home care. Under the scheme, people who need nursing home care have their income and assets assessed, and then make a contribution towards the cost of their care based on their assessment.

The HSE will pay the rest, if any, of the costs of their care in designated public and approved private nursing homes covered under the scheme. People can choose care in any of the nursing homes included in the scheme provided that the nursing home can cater for the person's particular needs and that it has a place available for the person.

As the budget for this scheme is fixed each year, at times a waiting list for financial support may be in place
